The Valencian architectural design firm bg studio has been commissioned to develop a “flagship project” for the north entrance of Alicante city in Spain. Been its characteristic feature besides from its aim to become a “warm welcome gesture to the Mediterranean sea” its skin composition material based on plastic composites. Kees Christiaanse, Professor of Architecture and Urban Design at the ETH, Zürich, and founder of KCAP Architects and Planners states that the definition of the Parque Central in the heart of the city presents the opportunity to transform the whole axis in an area of great urban vitality and become a exemplary model for future interventions. bg studio has teamed up with the dutch urban design studio KCAP, the French landscape designers BASE and engineering company SEG for the Central Park competition in Valencia. It seemed essential to team building to combine local professionals with knowledge of the urban history of the city and the topology of the place, with European studios that provided an external view on the constraints faced, as well as their knowledge of the great examples cities of northern Europe.
